Adopting A Pet Bird
Adoption and Rescue Program:
It is the goal of the Capital District Cage Bird Club to provide loving
and lasting homes for rescued, abandoned, and abused birds. We also
work to provide homes for birds whose owners (for whatever reason) can
no longer care for them. When birds are placed with new owners via the
CDCBC, it is with the understanding that under no circumstances are the
birds to be sold or given away. Should extenuating circumstances occur
whereby the new owner cannot keep the bird, that bird becomes the
property of the CDCGB and must be returned to Linda LaDuke for
re-adoption.
On becoming an adoptive bird
"parent":
Occasionally, the club receives phone inquiries from people looking to
find new homes for their pet birds. Some of our club members have
obtained birds placed through the adoption process.
A formal application process is required, as the club wants to insure
that all birds are placed with responsible owners who will care for the
bird on a permanent basis.
The "Adoption Program Application" is found on a separate page of this
website. Please print it off, complete the form, and mail it to the
address located on the form.
Am I ready to become a parent?
The best way to find out if you are "bird parent" material, is to
attend a regular club meeting and learn what is involved in taking care
of a pet bird.
Owning a pet bird is a lot like having a two-year-old child who never
grows up!. They are affectionate and demanding, rewarding and
frustrating.
